Donato Dental becomes the 1st office outside of NYC licensed to provide patients diagnosed with gum disease a minimally invasive alternative to conventional gum surgery utilizing the PerioLase® Nd:Yag Laser: The Periolase® laser is used in performing a patented and FDA approved technique called Laser Assited New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) which has been shown in a Louisiana State University Study to regenerate a new periodontal attachment in patients with gum disease where the attachment is usually compromised or destroyed. To View a summary of this study, click here.
Dr. Donato Napoletano is currently only one of 250 dentists and periodontists in the US. and 3rd in New York State to be trained and licensed by Millennium Dental Technologies to perform this breakthrough treatment for patients with gum disease. Some advantages of laser periodontal therapy (LPT) utilizing the LANAP procedure include: minimal post-operative pain, bleeding and swelling; reduced healing times, and reduced risk of infection just to name a few. Furthermore, there is increasing evidence which suggests that treating gum disease is not only important in preventing early tooth loss, but is also important in preventing other general health problems from developing. For more information on how gum disease may affect one's general health, please click here.
We are extemely pleased and excited to offer patients with gum disease a less painfull and minimally invasive treatment option to conventional surgery. This developement is especially significant when one takes into consideration the fact that at least 50% of the population has some form of gum disease which needs to be actively treated, and that 95% of these patients are not currently seeking treatment mainly due to procedural pain concerns.

Donato Dental to provide cosmetic patients with LUMINEERS: Lumineers are a porcelain veneer made of a patented porcelain called Cerinate® developed by DenMat Corporation which can be made contact-lens thin. The most significant advantage to the patient is that the teeth would require little to no removal of the patient's existing enamel which therefore provides a minimally invasive and painless alternative to patients who desire porcelain veneers to permanently lighten and improve their smiles. Donato Dental incorporates CAD/CAM technology in providing patients with conservative single-visit crowns and onlays using CEREC 3D: There are currently over 10,000 CEREC users world-wide and over 6 million restorations placed since its inception 15 years ago. The 3D version of CEREC which was introduced about 2 years ago, has made it both easier and practical to incorporate this technology to practice since the amount of time required to design and fabricate a crown has been streamlined considerably.
With CEREC crowns and onlays, there are NO impressions, NO temporaries and NO second visit. Furthermore, the preparation requires less removal of tooth structure than conventional methods.
Here's a brief summary of how it works:
Once a tooth is prepared for a crown or onlay, an optical image of the preparation is taken instead of an impression. The image is processed by a computer and a restoration is designed by the dentist on a computer generated model which shows all images in 3 dimensions.
Once the design of the restoration is completed, the information is sent to a robotic milling unit which precisely mills out the crown or onlay out of a block of porcelain. The imaging, designing and milling processes usually takes about the same amount of time as it took to take an impression and make a temporary. The finished restoration is then polished and cemented in at the same appointment! Since there are no laboratory fees associated with CEREC restorations, the cost of the crown to the patient is the same as a conventional crown. We are very pleased to offer this exciting technology to our patients. If you would like to learn more about CEREC 3D, click here.

Donato Dental announces successful integration of 3 Lasers and surgical microscopes to daily practice providing patients with Minimally Invasive Dentistry: Below is a description of each type of laser we use in the diagnosis and treatment of early stage cavities and gum disease:
| Diagnodent: |
This is a diagnostic laser used in the early detection of cavities. Clinical studies have shown it to be effective in detecting over 92% of all surface cavities. |
| Erbium:YAG: |
This laser is mainly used for hard tissue procedures and some soft tissue procedures. With the aid of surgical microscopes, the erbium laser can perform conservative cavity preparations without novacaine in most cases. |
| Diode Laser: |
This laser is used for soft tissue procedures and can also be used without novacaine for some procedures. Due to the diode's hemostatic (no bleeding) and bactericidal (germ-killing) capabilities, this laser is an effective adjunct in reducing pocket depths in patients with early to moderate gum disease. The Diode laser can also be used to re-shape "gummy smiles" and remove small benign tumors such as fibromas without the need for suturing. |

Although dental lasers can not be used to treat all forms and stages of dental and gum diseases, it does enable us to provide a more proactive and conservative approach to early stage problems rather than watching them worsen with time.

Donato Dental adds Laser Periodontal Therapy to practice: With our new diode laser, we are now able to treat early to moderate periodontal disease without surgery and in many cases, without anesthesia. For more information about laser periodontal therapy, click here.

Donato Dental incorporates Microscopic Dentistry to practice: With the use of microscopes, we are now able to perform most dental and periodontal procedures more precisely in the least invasive means possible (professionally known as Minimally Invasive Dentistry). The microscope is an extremely valuable tool when used in conjunction with hard and soft tissue lasers since the tissue reactions can be more closely observed.
The microscope is also beneficial in locating small and extra canals in teeth that are being root canalled. In fact, all endodontic teaching programs in the U.S. are required to include training on the microscope as part of their curriculum. Some dental schools are even exposing all of their students to the microscope. Donato Dental is pleased to join the growing number of dental offices across the U.S. that now provide their patients with microscope-enhanced dentistry.

Donato Dental provides Oral Sedation Dentistry to phobic patients: Dr. Donato Napoletano is pleased to announce that he has received New York State certification in the use of Enteral Conscious Sedation. Dr. Napoletano completed the training required for licensure in January through the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) which was sponsored and held by the New York University College of Dentistry.
It is estimated that about 50% of the US population are currently avoiding routine dental visits due to fear. Oral sedation dentistry has been shown to be safe and effective in comfortably treating many of these phobic patients. To learn more about Oral Sedation Dentistry, click here.

Donato Dental adds Laser Microdentistry to practice: Our new Erbium Laser can perform both soft and hard tissue procedures. In most cases, we are now able to treat early stage cavities conservatively and painlessly with no novacaine! Click here to read an article about Laser Microdentistry. We are very pleased to offer this exciting technology to our patients. Dr. Napoletano is certified in the use of erbium and diode lasers by the Academy of Laser Dentistry.

Donato Dental incorporates Digital Radiography to practice: With digital radiography, patients recieve up to 90% less radiation than conventional x-rays.
Other benefits include superior image quality with zoom capability which greatly enhances diagnosis. Also, Images are shown instantly on a computer monitor which eliminates the time needed to develop and process x-rays. We are very pleased to provide this new technology to our patients.

Donato Dental is pleased to announce the completion of their new web site. The web site will feature information on services available, post-operative instruction for our patients and informative links to dental info. The site will also feature a news section which will discuss what is new in our practice.

Donato Dental aquires KAVO's ELECTROtorque Plus dental drills. These low-noise electric drills are more efficient and smoother cutting than the conventional air-driven drills, thereby increasing patient comfort and reducing patient's anxiety levels during dental procedures.

Donato Dental adds OralCDx to list of diagnostic services offered to patients. OralCDx offers dentists an atraumatic and painless way to determine if suspicious lesions in the oral cavity are pre-cancerous, malignant or benign with out the need for incisional or exisional biopsy. Oral cancer affects more than 30,000 Americans each year claiming over 8,000 lives as compared to melanoma and cervical cancer, which account for approximately 8,000 and 5,000 deaths per year, respectively.

Donato Dental now provides Periodontal services to patients with Gum Disease. Studies indicate that an estimated 80% of American adults currently have some form of gum disease. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Diagnosed early, early tooth loss can now be prevented with either surgical or non-surgical treatments. respectively. A growing body of research links periodontal disease to heart disease, diabetes, preterm and low birth weight babies, and respiratory disease.

Donato Dental aquires the KAVO DIAGNOdent laser cavity detector. The DIAGNOdent is a new tecnology which enables dentists to objectively diagnose cavities in the very early stages. The earlier a cavity is detected, the less drilling is required to remove the cavity which in turn helps preserve healthy tooth structure and may also help prevent a tooth from needing a root canal or a crown later.

Donato Dental incorporates the Luma Arch Bleaching System. Luma Arch enables dentists to offer their patients whiter teeth in just one hour. (Effective in 2003, Donato Dental will also provide their Luma Arch patients with free custom made bleaching trays and take-home bleaching kits so that patients can maintain their brighter smiles at home eliminating the need for future whitening procedures later.)
